Why should Chinese student of English bother about Eruopean culture?
为什么中国英语专业的学生要费心去学习欧洲文化？
Well, English culture is a part of European culture and language cannot be learned without some knowledge of the culture behind it.
好吧，英国文化是欧洲文化的一部分，而且，如果不掌握一些语言背后的文化知识，我们也无法学习语言。
Further, European culture itself is a part of world culture.
更进一步地，欧洲文化本身也是世界文化的一部分。
Some knowledge of it is necessary to us as citizens of the world, particularly so when our country is going ahead with modernization and taking an active part in world affairs.
作为这个世界的公民，特别是当我们的国家正继续着现代化进程、并积极投身于全球事务时，这其中的一些知识对与我们来说是非常必要的。

2. Two Major Elements in European Culture
2、欧洲文化中的两个主要成分

European culture is made up of many elements, which have gone through changes over the centuries.
欧洲文化由许许多多的成分构成，它们已经经历了几个世纪的变化。
Two of these elements are considered to be more enduring and they are: the Greco-Roman element, and the Judeo-Christian element.
这些成分中的两个被认为是更持久的，它们是：希腊、罗马的元素和犹太教、基督教的元素。
However, there has been a complex interplay between the two, which adds to the richness of the culture.
然而，这两者之间还经历了复杂的相互作用，使这个文化变得更加的丰富。
